SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!!!

Ok so i have been working with an 8 year old paint who is semi ridable. . . a 10 y/o little girl has been riding him and he does beautifully with her and other kids but when an adult tries to ride him he turns into a completely different horse you can do all the exact same things the little girl does on him and he's two completely different horses. when adults get on him he gets nervous and bolts at everything and refuses to stop and has even reared up and bucked a bit. how should i handle this?

Re: SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!!!

Maybe the kids ride a little bit slopper than you do and you might a tighter rein on your horse than the kids do.  I'm sorry i cant help you more.  I hope this might be a little help.Lexi

Re: SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!!!

I used to know a horse like this, and while I cannot tell you exactly why your horse does this I can tell you why the horse I knew did it.  While the adults are using the same cues as the kids they do feel different to them.  For one the adult's legs are longer so you are going to touch the horse in a different spot. And the other reason was that more times a kid is not as strong as the adult and the horse may respond better to the softer cues.  I hope this may help.

Re: SOMEBODY HELP ME!!!!!!!

I have a P.O.A. gelding around your horses age who has a similar problem. He works well with children but not with adults. When I looked into his history I found out that he was abused my his previos owner. I'm not sure if that is the case in your situation though. He also works better if you use the lightest cue first and then if he chuses not to respond make your cue stronger.when children ride usally they always use the lightest cue first not wanting to 'hurt the horse' so you could try using softer cues' but also make him do what you ask.It could just be that your first cues are two strong and it puts him in a bad mood?Sorry I could not be of much help
