    Horses and Divorce

This photo was taken of me and Thief last Wednesday before Randy came to pick her up.

It was decided among the men that I was surrounded by for my pretrial divorce proceedings that I was not to sell the mare to what would hopefully be a kind hearted stranger but given to a man soon to be called my ex husband. Randy could then disperse of her as he saw fit and keep the profit instead of putting the money on debts, (that he created!!!). When I sold colonel I had to put the money on a loan. Mind you Randy could give two sh**s about Thief.

His horse that he used to own known as Chex My Book was afraid of a brush!! A BRUSH!! The horse looked like crap caked in mud, dirt and saddle sweat. He even had twigs and brambles so knotted in his (what could have been a beautiful thick mane and tail) that Randy would just cut chunks out. When I came into Randy's life that horse got a good brushing and a bath, his mane and tail grew back thick and beautifully black. He picked up his hooves for me (he had a huge problem with anyone touching his hooves). He also calmed down when I rode him he wasn't super high strung like he used to be.

So Thief was sentenced to go to Randy and I was so angry and sad, but there was nothing I could do about it. I tried to argue about it with my Lawyer but he told me I was being unreasonable and he would have none of it. So Randy picked up Thief this last Sunday and I will never see her again.

Also Randy has yet to pay for any upkeep on the horses since the proceedings of the divorce. He owes a couple grand (Since I had to take care of them for a long time) just for his half. He won't pay a cent on it. He told me so. Even if the court orders him to pay his half of the up keep he will just disappear and not pay.

This is what I get for being so blind. I loved him with all my heart and he never loved me. He told me he would take away from me what was most precious and he did.

My advice to anyone with horses getting into a relationship that may turn into marriage, get a pre-nup, that wonderful little piece of paper may keep those precious animals of yours in your life. Here in WI anything that you had before your marriage is considered marital property once married and is divided into half when divorce rolls around. Your partner may say "well I love you and we don't need one". Well if he/she plans on staying with you forever who cares if they sign the paper it will never be used. And if they want to just get half of whatever it is that you have be it Money, Land, House and horses (which when liquidated gives them a lot of cash) they have to walk away without it because they signed that paper saying that your stuff is yours. Let us hope none of you have to experience this in your life because you could really go without the hurt.

I think that I read this before.I saw Chief's photo and fell in love then found the slide show you had made. Then I was sad to think such a beautiful horse was gone. You didn't have much of an attorney by what happened to you and I cannot believe that a judge would go along with it even. Sure wish you would have gotten a second opinion but that is what they were relying on that you wouldn't. Well it is water under the bridge and you are a pretty person that can go on in life and be happy and have a wonderful life. He will still be the same sad individual. Good luck to you.
