    lead changes

    Hi everyone,

I'm not really sure how to go about this but if I don't try I will never secede! Soooo, I have just started riding aging after a feeeewwww years out of the saddle. When I learned to ride we just got on and rode. So now, that I got the oppurtunity to get another horse it's all changed. A person doesn't just get on and ride. I rescued this nice little Arab/throughbred gelding from this girl (who couldn't take care of herself let alone a horse) and now we are both learning. I have had him about 3 years now and we are getting into barrels, poles and such. We do really good considering we know nothing. We started out in the bottom division and now we are knocking at AAA division. But we want more! I've started taking lessons and have found out that I am real hungry. I want to be able to ride and ride well. I want to be able to teach my horse good habits that will enable him to get better also. So here's my delima. I have never known what a lead is let alone how to get him to do this. My trainer is not available all of the lime and my goal for the week is to get Copper to lope in a right circle on his correct lead. The problem is I don't know what it looks like when I get him there. I was trying to get my husband to help but I could tell him what to look for cuz I didn't know myself. Does anyone know and can anyone tell me what to do to get there, maybe a video to watch, or what it feels like when he is on his correct lead. My trainer tells me that he is strong on the left but weak on his right. We need help and balance PLEASE

    Thanks,

    Rho

    Hey

I have some videos of me riding here: youtube.com/ironfreehorse.

A right lead canter (lope) is when the right fore and hind leg lead (they are always out front): www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7j-p10saew (right after the trot, she picks up right lead canter)

A left lead canter is when the left fore and hind leg lead. Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b6P5KpWW8c (again, right after the trot she picks up left lead)

Let me know of any specific things you are wondering about. I hope this helps. My site:http://ironfreehorse.net/default.aspx

The video links aren't showing up for some reason, but if you point at the empty space you should be able to click on them to get to the videos.
