I use Bute for pain. My vet doesn't recommend it for more than 3 or 4 days though.

It depends on what your giving it for. Sometimes just a little R&R will help. Otherwise, bute is safe to give provided it's dosed correctly and not used long-term

I pretty much give it for pain but you should ask your vet first about what he/she says.

I have never used bute on my horses. I use an amish recipe. It works great on everythings. But if your vet says to use bute for so many days then i would use it but if i think i know what is wrong with my horses then i would try some thing else like an old amish recipe.
