    Looking Forward To Spring

    Sunday, February 22, 2009, 08:17 AM [General]

Hi everyone, well once again I have not been on this site in a while.  But I am definitely looking forward to spring coming. I am not one for the cold weather. I enjoy warm weather.  Not much has been going on here with my family in Georgia. My two teenage sons have gotten 'girl crazy' both of them have girlfriends and stay on the phone.

I have made a new years resolution to ride more this year. I did not ride much last year. And so far I have been riding almost everyday. Thanks to my husband that has acquired two more horses that need riding. We now have four horses. My mare Silk that I have had since she was 13 months old and she will be 5 years old this April. The colt that my we rescued, he is now around 9 months old and is something else, he is spoiled rotten. We now have a 9 year old QH mare that was given to us. A lady we know got her from another lady that threatened to put her down because she would pin her ears back and show her teeth at the lady. And the lady we know got her and worked with her and she is not a bad horse, just a 9 year old green broke horse. She does not know anything. The only time she pins her ears back at us is when she is eating. My husband went out this morning and she was eating and she pinned her ears back and showed her teeth at him. That is the first time she has done this in the week we have had her.

My husband finally got a horse that he can ride, a little taller than he would like but he is a good horse. He is around 8 or 9 years old, and is a Tennessee Walker / QH cross gelding. He is a really nice, calm horse.

We are also in process of organizing a Saddle Up for St. Jude trail ride and fun day for May 15 & 16. It will be held in Cobbtown, Georgia at the Kennedy Farm. Anyone that is near by and would like to know more or attend please contact me at dshparker@gmail.com or if you would like to donate to or sponsor the event contact me. We are praying that it will be a successful event and we can have it every year.

Well that is about it. Not much going on around here. The weather has been crazy, nice and warm one day and freezing cold the next. One day last week it was in the 70's and then that night it dropped down to 28 degrees. Ugh I will be so glad to see the spring come. I am so ready for the weather to warm up a bit.

Well I will stop for now, everyone take care and God bless you and yours.

    Hello

    Thursday, October 2, 2008, 05:48 PM [General]

    Hello everyone,

I have not been on in a while and thought I would take a minute to post an update.

2008 has been a rough year for my family.  My husband and I both drive dump trucks and work has been ridiculously slow. In June my husbands oldest son passed from a drowning accident. He was 22 years old. Then to rub salt in the wound, my husband lost his job and was out of work for two and a half months. Talk about a financial pinch. OUCH!!! But things are starting to look up again. My husband is back to work, and my job is starting to pick up again. I just thank God for the blessings and the trials he has bestowed upon us. Because of the trials we have been through, it has taught us to manage our money better.

As for the horses, we are down to two. The financial pinch caused us to downgrade some.

I still have Silk, (of course) she is my baby. We sold Mystery, and Frank, we have another mare that was given to my husband. She has leg problems so she is just going to be a pet and maybe let the grandkids ride her around the yard. My husband is considering breeding her but is going to get the vets opinion first on whether or not he thinks she would be able to carry a foal with her legs the way they are.

The kids are...well they are kids. Boys being boys. But I would not trade them for the world and everything in and around it. The boys are my world.

I have not been riding much, it just has been entirely too hot here, but now that fall is here and the weather is cooling down a bit, I am looking forward to riding.

I have been invited to ride with some friends in the Turpentine Parade on Saturday Oct. 4 and then in the Fair parade on Oct. 13. Then sometime in November there is a big camp out/Trail ride that we have been invited to. We went to the one they had in the spring and had a great time. Looking forward to the next one.

Well that is about it, I am going to add a couple of new pictures.

May God bless everyone in every way!!!

    Update

    Friday, February 29, 2008, 06:01 AM [General]

Hello, thought I would post an update.

The weather has been crazy here in Georgia. Nice spring like weather one week and freezing weather the next. Everyone in my house has the flu because of it.  I don't like to ride in the cold so there has not been much riding going on around here.

My husband and I have joined  Cowboys for Christ. Some folks have gotten together and decided to form a chapter of Cowboys for Christ in the Southeast. I am looking forward to being a part of this.

But I have acquired two new horses over the last few weeks. My husband is not able to ride due to his back so he purchased a hackney pony and cart. The pony is called Frank and he is just adorable.  Frank will be five years old in April. He did not look the best when we first went to look at him, kind of on the thin side and his coat was dry and wiry, but we have had him about a month now and with good feed and a supplement added to that, he is beginning to put on some weight and his coat and starting to soften up. It will take time but I think he is going to be a nice pony.

The other horse I have acquired, I am not sure what she is, but she is a nice mare. A friend came over three weeks ago and brought two of his horses. He decided he was going to run the mare, he had asked me for a crop and I told him that he did not need to use a crop on this mare because she had been abused before he got her. So he took her to the edge of the field, broke a limb and popped her with it, well when he popped her backend with that limb her back end came up and he went over her head. He broke his ankle in three places and had to have surgery the next day to repair his ankle. He called me from the hospital and told me that if I knew anyone who wanted the mare that they could have her for $50. Well I bought the mare. I have not done much with her yet except work on gaining her trust in me. She is scared of everything. I put a canopy up for her to go under out of the rain and she was afraid of it. I left it up and she started investigating it and now she goes under it. I could not catch her when I went in the pen, now she will come to me.  So we are making progress.

Silk is getting bigger, I thought she was through growing but apparently I was wrong, she will be four years old in April. And she is getting huge.

Mystery is doing well, she is sprouting up also.

So I am looking forward to the spring and warm weather, I have a lot of work cut out for me.

This is Frank the day we went to look at him for the first time

This is Mystery, she is really growing she will be one year old in April

This is Silk (reg.name Ten Dude) She is not very photogenic, I can never get a good picture of her.

    HI

    Tuesday, December 25, 2007, 05:53 PM [General]

Hi I just wanted to introduce myself. I have been visiting the horsecity site for a while now but just now decided to join and create a profile. I live in Georgia, I am the mother of five wonderful boys. I drive a dump truck for a living. And I own two horses. One is a quarter horse mare that I purchased when she was 13 months old, her registered name is Ten Dude, my children named her Silk because I brought her home in the spring and when the boys petted her they said "mom she feels like silk" so that is what she has been called ever since. She will be 4 years old in April of 2008. The other horse I own is a 9 month old filly that was given to us by a friend. My friend rescues abused and neglected horses and she had rescued two horses last March one of which was a mare. The mare was nothing but skin and bone, so underweight that no one could tell that she was pregnant. Twelve days after my friend had rescued them she went out to the pasture where she kept them and there was a baby beside the mare. A miracle that it was alive. Well she was named Mystery. My friend asked me if I would like to have her and I told her yes so now we are glad to have Mystery as a part of our family. she is such a joy to have.

I mostly trail ride nowadays as I am getting on up in age, I used to barrel race before my younger sons were born, and I am thinking about training Silk for the barrel events as she is showing potential. I ride her in local parades and on charity trail rides such as for St. Judes.

I have enjoyed visiting the horsecity website and will continue. I look forward to meeting some friends here in the near future.

And I would like to wish everyone a very blessed holiday season and New Year!
