    Hello

    Thursday, October 2, 2008, 05:48 PM [General]

    Hello everyone,

I have not been on in a while and thought I would take a minute to post an update.

2008 has been a rough year for my family.  My husband and I both drive dump trucks and work has been ridiculously slow. In June my husbands oldest son passed from a drowning accident. He was 22 years old. Then to rub salt in the wound, my husband lost his job and was out of work for two and a half months. Talk about a financial pinch. OUCH!!! But things are starting to look up again. My husband is back to work, and my job is starting to pick up again. I just thank God for the blessings and the trials he has bestowed upon us. Because of the trials we have been through, it has taught us to manage our money better.

As for the horses, we are down to two. The financial pinch caused us to downgrade some.

I still have Silk, (of course) she is my baby. We sold Mystery, and Frank, we have another mare that was given to my husband. She has leg problems so she is just going to be a pet and maybe let the grandkids ride her around the yard. My husband is considering breeding her but is going to get the vets opinion first on whether or not he thinks she would be able to carry a foal with her legs the way they are.

The kids are...well they are kids. Boys being boys. But I would not trade them for the world and everything in and around it. The boys are my world.

I have not been riding much, it just has been entirely too hot here, but now that fall is here and the weather is cooling down a bit, I am looking forward to riding.

I have been invited to ride with some friends in the Turpentine Parade on Saturday Oct. 4 and then in the Fair parade on Oct. 13. Then sometime in November there is a big camp out/Trail ride that we have been invited to. We went to the one they had in the spring and had a great time. Looking forward to the next one.

Well that is about it, I am going to add a couple of new pictures.

May God bless everyone in every way!!!

    Update

    Friday, February 29, 2008, 06:01 AM [General]

Hello, thought I would post an update.

The weather has been crazy here in Georgia. Nice spring like weather one week and freezing weather the next. Everyone in my house has the flu because of it.  I don't like to ride in the cold so there has not been much riding going on around here.

My husband and I have joined  Cowboys for Christ. Some folks have gotten together and decided to form a chapter of Cowboys for Christ in the Southeast. I am looking forward to being a part of this.

But I have acquired two new horses over the last few weeks. My husband is not able to ride due to his back so he purchased a hackney pony and cart. The pony is called Frank and he is just adorable.  Frank will be five years old in April. He did not look the best when we first went to look at him, kind of on the thin side and his coat was dry and wiry, but we have had him about a month now and with good feed and a supplement added to that, he is beginning to put on some weight and his coat and starting to soften up. It will take time but I think he is going to be a nice pony.

The other horse I have acquired, I am not sure what she is, but she is a nice mare. A friend came over three weeks ago and brought two of his horses. He decided he was going to run the mare, he had asked me for a crop and I told him that he did not need to use a crop on this mare because she had been abused before he got her. So he took her to the edge of the field, broke a limb and popped her with it, well when he popped her backend with that limb her back end came up and he went over her head. He broke his ankle in three places and had to have surgery the next day to repair his ankle. He called me from the hospital and told me that if I knew anyone who wanted the mare that they could have her for $50. Well I bought the mare. I have not done much with her yet except work on gaining her trust in me. She is scared of everything. I put a canopy up for her to go under out of the rain and she was afraid of it. I left it up and she started investigating it and now she goes under it. I could not catch her when I went in the pen, now she will come to me.  So we are making progress.

Silk is getting bigger, I thought she was through growing but apparently I was wrong, she will be four years old in April. And she is getting huge.

Mystery is doing well, she is sprouting up also.

So I am looking forward to the spring and warm weather, I have a lot of work cut out for me.

This is Frank the day we went to look at him for the first time
