    Looking Forward To Spring

    Sunday, February 22, 2009, 08:17 AM [General]

Hi everyone, well once again I have not been on this site in a while.  But I am definitely looking forward to spring coming. I am not one for the cold weather. I enjoy warm weather.  Not much has been going on here with my family in Georgia. My two teenage sons have gotten 'girl crazy' both of them have girlfriends and stay on the phone.

I have made a new years resolution to ride more this year. I did not ride much last year. And so far I have been riding almost everyday. Thanks to my husband that has acquired two more horses that need riding. We now have four horses. My mare Silk that I have had since she was 13 months old and she will be 5 years old this April. The colt that my we rescued, he is now around 9 months old and is something else, he is spoiled rotten. We now have a 9 year old QH mare that was given to us. A lady we know got her from another lady that threatened to put her down because she would pin her ears back and show her teeth at the lady. And the lady we know got her and worked with her and she is not a bad horse, just a 9 year old green broke horse. She does not know anything. The only time she pins her ears back at us is when she is eating. My husband went out this morning and she was eating and she pinned her ears back and showed her teeth at him. That is the first time she has done this in the week we have had her.

My husband finally got a horse that he can ride, a little taller than he would like but he is a good horse. He is around 8 or 9 years old, and is a Tennessee Walker / QH cross gelding. He is a really nice, calm horse.

We are also in process of organizing a Saddle Up for St. Jude trail ride and fun day for May 15 & 16. It will be held in Cobbtown, Georgia at the Kennedy Farm. Anyone that is near by and would like to know more or attend please contact me at dshparker@gmail.com or if you would like to donate to or sponsor the event contact me. We are praying that it will be a successful event and we can have it every year.

Well that is about it. Not much going on around here. The weather has been crazy, nice and warm one day and freezing cold the next. One day last week it was in the 70's and then that night it dropped down to 28 degrees. Ugh I will be so glad to see the spring come. I am so ready for the weather to warm up a bit.

Well I will stop for now, everyone take care and God bless you and yours.

    Hello

    Thursday, October 2, 2008, 05:48 PM [General]

    Hello everyone,

I have not been on in a while and thought I would take a minute to post an update.

2008 has been a rough year for my family.  My husband and I both drive dump trucks and work has been ridiculously slow. In June my husbands oldest son passed from a drowning accident. He was 22 years old. Then to rub salt in the wound, my husband lost his job and was out of work for two and a half months. Talk about a financial pinch. OUCH!!! But things are starting to look up again. My husband is back to work, and my job is starting to pick up again. I just thank God for the blessings and the trials he has bestowed upon us. Because of the trials we have been through, it has taught us to manage our money better.

As for the horses, we are down to two. The financial pinch caused us to downgrade some.

I still have Silk, (of course) she is my baby. We sold Mystery, and Frank, we have another mare that was given to my husband. She has leg problems so she is just going to be a pet and maybe let the grandkids ride her around the yard. My husband is considering breeding her but is going to get the vets opinion first on whether or not he thinks she would be able to carry a foal with her legs the way they are.

The kids are...well they are kids. Boys being boys. But I would not trade them for the world and everything in and around it. The boys are my world.

I have not been riding much, it just has been entirely too hot here, but now that fall is here and the weather is cooling down a bit, I am looking forward to riding.

I have been invited to ride with some friends in the Turpentine Parade on Saturday Oct. 4 and then in the Fair parade on Oct. 13. Then sometime in November there is a big camp out/Trail ride that we have been invited to. We went to the one they had in the spring and had a great time. Looking forward to the next one.

Well that is about it, I am going to add a couple of new pictures.

May God bless everyone in every way!!!
