Hey Amanda! Your pony is super cute!!! I like the wild colored ones...as you can tell. He looks like fun. yep, i'm a small animal vet. i do emergency medicine. i like the excitement. If you think you want to be a vet or a tech, you should try to get a job doing it to see if you really like it. At first you'll be cleaning cages but you'll get to see cool stuff and you'll start to do fun stuff the longer you are there. that way you can know before you put all the energy into it if it's something you want to do. As far as operations...being a horse vet is a little different. I can't say for sure, since i'm not a horse vet, but...you usually don't do major surgeries (unless you specialize). most horse vets will do wound repair like stitches, but not abdominal surgery. Now...if you're a cow vet that's different. you do lots of surgeries out in the field. but a horse vet...usually if it's a major surgery..you refer it to a vet school or a clinic. but you would do some stitching type stuff. atleast i think!
thanks! i do love my job and i do love my horses! this way i can enjoy my job and enjoy my horses, since i have some time off and am not burnt out by dealing with them all day. not sure that every horse vet gets that way, but... i wanted to make sure i would still enjoy them!
thanks for the support! My pony is fantastic, so he does all the work!
good luck to you with trying to figure out what you want to do. there are tons of other horse related careers, so if you decide being a vet or a tech isn't for you, you have options. just find something you love! good luck.
