There are a bunch of safety issues. From all the reading I've done over the past few weeks, it really seems that most of the issues can stem from the change from long to short format.     I know that we will probably never go back to a true long format with roads and tracks and a steeplechase phase. However, I believe that a modified long format would be a good change. Perhaps a short steeplechase course of some type. Just so you  can get your horse moving forward and see where his/her head is at on the day of the event. Much better to find he's not jumping well over smaller brush fences than to find out 3 or 4 jumps into a course of solid fences!I haven't been eventing long but I have been reading on the subject for years. And have worked with people who have been eventing for years as well. The change to short format is NOT working.Just my opinion on the matter. :)Christine~

Hey all,How's the season going for everyone?  I'm doing our local unrecognize, unrated horse trial series this summer.  Just trying to save cash, bring on a young horse, and get back into competing after a bad marriage/divorce.  We've had really bad rain--storms every afternoon for a month, so the footing is terrible and no one has cut any hay.  Have fun and STAY SAFE at those horse trialsholly
