Just coming back from vacation. The weather could have been more agreeable, but did not hold us back. The first two days of vacation were spent forging an incredible trail in the woods, on a ledge that follows a very deep ravine. Very scenic, but definitely not a good place to slip. We took the horses for a ride on it Tuesday and they loved it. Then the weather took a turn for the worse the remainder of the week so we have not been back on it. Not the sort of trail to be on if it's slick, as the bottom of the ravine is probably about 40 feet below. The new trail leads to a huge field perched high above Chittenango. It was a beautiful day and the horses were very pleased. Mumbles was tearing back so fast I had to put the brakes on quite a bit. Nice to see him feeling his oats finally! We didn't name the trail until after we got back and decided upon "Mumbles' Ledge" as he was so animated on the whole ride. He just loves hitting the trails. This was our first "real" trail ride so it was a huge milestone.
The next couple days went into a new chicken coop. We now have two chickens -- one Rhode Island Red and, I'm ashamed to say, I cannot remember the name of the other breed, though she is black and does not have much of a comb. We have simply named them "Red" and "Black." So far, Red has laid two eggs and Black none.
Saturday was my birthday and was spent finishing the garden, which has tripled in size this year. We planted about 250 corn kernels, 2-3 rows of tomatoes, broccoli, peppers, radishes, onions, carrots, potatoes and lots of flowers. Still have more flower seeds to sow but have saved that for last. We were going to go out to eat, but opted for a BBQ instead (ribs, corn on the cob and salt potatoes). There were enough leftovers for a whole other meal so that's on tonight's menu. Yum!
Yesterday we went to a Sky Chief's game with Rick, Lyn, Ricky and Holly. While the boys went down to the concession area, Lyn and I were in the stadium. I had just finished telling her how every time we come we manage to get a ball (probably 5 out of 6 games) and the boys are going to think they get a ball at every game. About two minutes later, doesn't a foul ball come flying up the stands, right behind me? I stood up and the thing just bounced down, directly at me and landed in the cup holder behind my seat. Bob saw the ball from the concession area and commented that it looked like it went right where we were sitting. On the way home we stopped at Twin Trees and picked up a pie for home. I was more thrilled about that.
Now it's back to work. Thankfully, the weather is still not that great. It would have been tough if it had been 70 and sunny today. :D
