About Me I'm a sophomore at OSU after spending my freshman year at Linn-Benton Community College and the first semester of this year at Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. I'm a pre-vet student with a declared major in Animal Sciences, concentrating in Equine Science. When I finish all my school and stuff like that I plan on specializing in equine repro/nutrition/sports medicine, so I might actually get to make a decent living... So while I'm not busy with school all of my free time is devoted to my horse Vegas. She is undoubtedly the best horse ever! We ride eventing and dressage primarily, and sometimes we'll do a jumper class when we get a wild hair. Aside from my horse, my time is spent doing homework. As a pre-vet student there is never a shortage of homework! Outside of horses I don't really have a lot of time to pursue other hobbies, but when I do I LOVE to read anything I can get my hands on (especially Harry Potter!!), outdoor recreation, boating, camping, things like that. I used to be an avid runner but after a series of injuries ruined what cartilage I have left after being born with bad knees I had to give up my dreams of ever running the Boston Marathon...but I hope that after I recover from this latest one that I'll be able to start up again...
Music Anything. Literally anything EXCEPT JAZZ!!!!!!! I hate that white noise crap with a passion! If you are offended by the things I just said, I don't care. But my main music likes are alternative rock, country, and pop.
Movies I don't really have time for movies. The HP movies rock my sox of course, but the best freaking movie ever made is Black Beauty, closely followed by The Horse in th Grey Flannel Suit.
TV Don't have time for that either...I do make time for House (AAHHH my hero!!) and Deadliest Catch and pretty much anything on Discovery Health and Science.
Books Non-fiction mostly: science books, Stephen Hawking, encyclopedias, dictionaries, horse books, languages, but I do enjoy a good novel now and then.
Likes Umm, aside from horses, not much. I'm pretty much the world's pickiest eater, and I really don't like people, so yeah... Oh, I like garlic.
Dislikes A lot of things: tomatoes, people, stupidity, mainstream American media, mainstream Americans who listen to the media, CNN, onions, mustard, seafood, chemistry, strawberries, excessive heat waves...the list goes on.
Hobbies Horses, that's pretty much all I have time for.
Vices Nail-biting and hand-flapping Small Stuff: While I'm not really a big stresser (see below), small stuff can freak me out, like losing my pen...
Virtues Procrastination: I have it down to an art. Laidbackedness: I'm pretty much an easy-going person for sure - not much can get me riled up...I try to take it all in stride...
Heroes Karen and David O'Connor: The best eventers in the world! Vegas: That horse has been through so much that I don't even know how to explain how what she does for me everyday is more than amazing.

    Home Again

    Wednesday, December 12, 2007, 11:06 AM [General]

It was with mixed emotions that I left Wilson College Saturday Morning. Although my destination was home, I still felt the pang of leaving behind a way of life that I had known for several months. However, this decision was one that I had made after heavy consideration of all the possibilities. So I left Wilson College with my truck full of all my worldly possessions and the horse trailer full of Vegas and all of her worldly possessions. For a second time in four months we set out to cross the country.

Having already traversed eleven states in the middle of summer, we decided to do it again in the winter.  Luckily, the only weather we ran into during all four days of travel was a little sleet on the first day. With stops in La Porte, IN; York, NE; and Rock Springs, WY we made it home safe and sound in the wee hours of this morning. Vegas is resting peacefully in her stall and will soon enjoy a few hours of turnout with her pasture buddy that she's been missing for all these months.

As for me, come this January I start at Oregon State University to finish my undergraduate work (hopefully by the end of Spring 2010). I will then proceed to their veterinary medical school - assuming I get accepted.

So for now, that's all. I'll be back with more updates (hopefully on a more frequent basis) on the college horse and her college-suffering owner.

    Wilson College

    How time passes!

The last entry was made on August 17th, and here it is November 21st. New Student Orientation has passed, as has most of the term. Wilson has been such a wonderful and fantastic and interesting experience! I have never learned so much about academics, had so much room to grow, and experienced so much in the horse world. I've seen new places, made new friends, ridden new horses, eaten new foods, taken new classes, and gained five pounds. I've experience temperatures so high my spleen was boiling, and so cold my eyeballs were frozen. I've met people from around the country and around the world. I've eaten food so good I couldn't stop, and so disgusting I couldn't stop gagging. I've been to some of the biggest cities in the nation, yet I live in a town so small that there's no public transportation. I've gained new physical prowess and new injuries. I've ridden harder than ever before, and loved it more than ever.

In short, I've done a lot over the past three months. Yet, in just two short weeks I will be leaving Chambersburg to return home. The reason for this is manifold, but mostly due to academic and distance constraints. So in January, I shall be starting at Oregon State University, where I will finish my undergrad and then start vet school. Wilson has been wonderful to me, and I will be terribly sad to leave, but I cannot discount the joy that I will experience when I return home.

Vegas and I are going to be home for Christmas.
